2006-06-20 - Santiago, Chile - Feria de Educación y Tecnología
Seth and I took off from La Paz for a week, leaving our classes and work behind to attend the first annual education and technology fair in Santiago.
Because of our work -- teaching technology (or computer) classes to adolescents -- and getting involved in Free and Open Source Software, we thought that it would really help us out to attend the fair.
The fair was to last only two to three days and we were in Santiago for nearly ten days, so I was planning on taking a little time to see some more of the sites. However, it didn't quite work out that way. Rather, Seth and I spent all of our time with the people who organized the fair, helping them out, tagging along on their meetings.
The fair turned out to fall far short of my expectations but the upside is that I met some great people in Santiago and had a bit of an opportunity to see how education, technology and open source are working for them.
It was also quite an experience to be with three more coworkers from La Paz and Oruro and being able to tour Santiago with them, giving them more of an idea of what a developed country looks like and how it operates.
We hung out quite a bit with two other invited guests from Europe: Danielle from Italy and Alexander from Germany.
