2006-09-30 - Santa Cruz, Bolivia - B37 Despedida
Seeing as B37 was the last significant group of my friends on their way out of Peace Corps, I decided I couldn't miss their going away party in Santa Cruz.
Unfortunately, there was some supposed confusion with my flight and, rather than flying out on Friday night, I flew out of La Paz Saturday morning the day of the party. On top of that, I had to fly first class and pay about 20 bucks more. I say there was "supposed confusion" because my suspicion is that the travel agency just decided to bump me off the flight because they had another, more important person who wanted to take the flight. They did this even though I had a reservation. This is some of the shiz I put up with in Bolivia.
Anyway, I made it to Santa Cruz in time to catch up with Tom, Mike, Dave, Alissa and others before hopping in a taxi and riding to a place called "Las Lagunas", a sort of resort with cabins and a giant swimming pool.
After having a few drinks, a game of basketball was organized which I could not miss. Unfortunately, a combination of being out of shape, slightly intoxicated, dehydrated and getting a charlie horse to the quad, I couldn't really keep up and play. I would have been much better off playing half court. Oh well.
After a few games, I was exhausted and only interested in resting. So I popped about 800 mg of ibuprofen and took a nap.
I finally rallied by the time most of everyone was already drunk, slammed a couple of shots of tequila and headed over to the group to join in their drinking game, tip cup.
From there on out it was a typical Peace Corps drunkfest with music, dancing, drinking games and more.
The following day and night was pretty relaxing, as mostly just the B37 group stayed on while most others took off.
